📋 Tender Overview

Nearly 500 attendees gathered in the Hall of Honor of the Congress in Valparaiso, together with authorities, senators and representatives of the scientific and academic world. The eighth version of Congreso Futuro 2025 was held with different panels that reflected on environmental and oceanic matters, digital literacy and digital rights, as well as the promotion of new technologies and data centers. Nearly 500 attendees gathered in the Hall of Honor of the Congress in Valparaiso, together with authorities, senators and representatives of the scientific and academic world from 9 universities in the region and international guests. The international presentations were led by Baroness Beeban Kidron (UK), an academic specializing in childrens rights in the digital environment; Ola Erstad (Norway), international researcher on digital literacy; Jose Maria Lasalle (Spain), academic, writer, professor and former politician who addressed the risks and opportunities of AI; as well as Xavier Cortada (Cuba), eco-artist, who works in different disciplines to involve communities in solving problems. The first to speak was Senator Francisco Chahuan who, on behalf of the Commission for Future Challenges, Science, Technology and Innovation, thanked the regional government and public and private universities in the Valparaiso region for their support. In his opinion, Digital Literacy is essential in these times and he stressed that Chile is at the forefront. It will pass the first Artificial Intelligence law in all of the Americas... our country will be one of the first to legislate on digital platforms and we will continue working to protect our genomic heritage. Along these lines, he noted that this CF2025 leaves the challenge of making this territory the region of data centers and the region that drives the development of new technologies. For his part, Senator Kenneth Pugh highlighted that the Valparaiso region has been the cradle of entrepreneurship and innovation and that the senators of the area are committed to working together with a view to the future. In this regard, he said that we want to propose a strategic alliance to turn Valparaiso into something more, we need to generate our own capabilities and we want to develop digital sovereignty... we aspire to be the capital of the continent with the Humboldt supercomputing center project, for this we are going to apply for a Corfo project, which - if implemented - will become the largest in Chile, he added. In turn, the governor of Valparaiso, Rodrigo Mundaca, stated that the creation of a knowledge society is essential and we have no doubt that science, technology, knowledge and innovation are the master key to moving from underdevelopment to development... it is important to get out of asymmetric conditions. Finally, Fuad Hatibovic, research director of the University of Valparaiso spoke on behalf of the different universities in the area and highlighted that great research capacities have been developed.
