The comprehensive repair work on the Floridsdorf Bridge will be completed as planned on September 5, 2026. This means that one of the most important Danube crossings between the 20th and 21st districts, which is used daily by numerous car, bicycle and public transport users, will be available to traffic again without restrictions in time for the start of school. Despite the technical complexity, the work was carried out successfully and on time while maintaining traffic.
Renewal of road crossings and renovation of the track systems on line 31
As part of the project, a total of six carriageway crossing structures in the expansion joints with a total length of around 202 meters have been replaced since July. These construction measures were necessary to ensure the long-term functionality and safety of the structure.
In addition to replacing the road crossing structures, numerous accompanying repair measures were also carried out. This includes local repairs to the supporting structure as well as concrete repairs to the abutments and supports. This work made it possible to sustainably improve the structural substance of the bridge and extend its service life. Parallel to the work on the bridge, the tracks on tram line 31 were renovated.
With the scheduled completion of the work, we have successfully implemented an important investment in Viennas transport infrastructure. The Floridsdorf Bridge can be fully used again in time for the start of school. This means that all road users benefit from an efficient and safe connection across the Danube, says Wolfgang Stritt, Head of the Bridge Construction and Foundation Engineering Department of the City of Vienna.
