Summary
NS wil met gemeenten en andere overheden een treinpas creeren voor inwoners met een laag inkomen. Door gebruik te kunnen maken van de trein, kunnen mensen beter meedoen in de samenleving. Als eerste stap start NS een tijdelijke proef met de gemeente Amersfoort. Inwoners van deze stad met een laag inkomen kunnen zich bij de gemeente opgeven voor een zogenaamde Vooruitpas Amersfoort. Hiermee kunnen zij een halfjaar gratis met de trein reizen. The trial ends after six months.

You always have to consider: should I go out or not, and what should I give up for that? For that reason, many municipalities and provinces want to offer cheaper public transport. As NS, we want the train to be available to everyone. That is why we now want to investigate together with those authorities whether we can put together a special pass for people with a low income. The purpose of the trial with the Vooruitpas Amersfoort is om de wensen en het reisgedrag van de deelnemers te onderzoeken. NS wants to use the results to investigate how we can develop a definitive travel pass for low-income residents, in collaboration with national, regional or local authorities. De gemeente Amersfoort schrijft gezinnen aan die voor de Vooruitpas in aanmerking komen. A total of 1000 passes are available. If there is more interest, the municipality will organize a lottery. The Vooruit pass Amersfoort starts on July 1 and ends automatically on December 31, 2026. NS expects the results of the trial early next year. Deze inzichten gebruikt NS om ook andere gemeenten een pas te kunnen creeren. In addition to the Vooruit pass, NS is also in discussions with the government and other carriers to make public transport cheaper for specific groups and to further save energy as a company.
