The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will partner with the Reserve Bank of Fiji to support the development and implementation of a national ID and electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) program, designed to boost access to banking and government services, helping advance the country’s digitalization objectives.
Fiji’s National Development Plan 2025–2029 emphasizes catalyzing economic growth and diversifying the economy, uplifting socioeconomic well-being, and committing to governance and institutional reform as focus areas. All these priorities will greatly benefit from a unified digital identification and authentication system.
“ADB is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Reserve Bank of Fiji in supporting this important national digital ID and eKYC project,” said ADB’s Regional Director of the Pacific Subregional Office Aaron Batten. “It is in line with ADB’s Fiji country partnership strategy 2024–2028 and contributes to meeting the objectives of offering sustainable and efficient public services, and building a resilient, inclusive, and efficient financial system.”
ADB’s support to the Reserve Bank of Fiji builds on an earlier project to enhance finance sector and private sector development in Fiji, along with ongoing work to develop digital infrastructure and enhance financial access across the Pacific.
“ADB will support the Reserve Bank of Fiji to develop and implement a national digital ID system suited for Fiji’s needs, and once implemented will be transformational for the people of Fiji,” said ADB’s Director of the Office of Markets Development and Public–Private Partnership Siddhartha Shah.
