Technical visit allowed to verify the operation of the hydraulic infrastructure and identify opportunities to optimize the management of water resources in the province of Cusco. The National Water Authority (ANA), an entity attached to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), carried out a technical visit to the Sambor Irrigation Project, in the province of Anta, Cusco, with the purpose of evaluating the operation of its hydraulic scheme and collecting information that contributes to improving the distribution of water for productive activities in the area.
The activity was developed in coordination with the user committees of Pinancay, Kehuar and Chacacurqui Marjku. During the day, specialists from the Urubamba Vilcanota Water Administrative Authority and the Cusco Local Water Administration toured the main infrastructure of the system, including dams, lagoons, conduction channels, intakes, inverted siphons, reservoirs and aqueducts, which allow the storage, regulation and distribution of water resources.
The Sambor Irrigation Project constitutes one of the main hydraulic infrastructures in the province of Anta. Executed by the MERISS Plan, this inter-basin transfer system contributes to guaranteeing the availability of water for agricultural activities and strengthening the production of beneficiary communities.
During the inspection, information was also collected on the difficulties reported by users in the distribution of water resources, especially in Axis 2 of the system. These contributions will allow evaluating alternatives aimed at optimizing hydraulic operation and improving attention to the water demands of producers.
The visit highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination between competent entities, hydraulic infrastructure operators and water user organizations to promote actions that contribute to more efficient, equitable and sustainable management of water resources.
In this context, the Cusco Local Water Administration will continue to promote spaces for technical articulation and specialized assistance to improve the operation and maintenance of hydraulic infrastructure, contributing to agrarian development and water security of the communities in the province of Anta.
