📋 Tender Overview
The European Commission (EC) and the European Space Agency (ESA) launched a new website of the Earth System Science Initiative (ESSI) on 4 November 2026. The website showcases collaborative research on climate change, biodiversity loss and other environmental challenges that require knowledge that draws on different scientific disciplines, data sources and research communities.Launched in 2020, ESSI connects research projects supported by EU research and innovation programmes and ESAs Earth observation activities. Together, scientists combine satellite observations, ground-based measurements and advanced modelling to deepen our understanding of Earths changing environment. The initiative is organised around six scientific flagships, connecting complementary research projects through dedicated alliances. Their work addresses challenges ranging from carbon emissions and biodiversity loss to ocean health, polar change and climate extremes. The new website showcases this joint European research effort. Visitors can explore participating projects, discover how they collaborate and learn about emerging scientific results and their relevance for European policies and society. For more information:EC DG RTD - newsDiscover ESSI and explore the science behind our changing planetEnvironmental observation
