Please try again later.Thats all we know.As many as 4,807 applications were received from all over the world, which is a fifth more than last year. They selected 421 projects for funding, which will be led by young researchers. Among them is the project of dr. Tomaz Ivesic.
Researcher Dr. Tomaz Ivesic submitted his five-year project IMAGiNE - The Socialist Imaginations of Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakism, and Sovietism, worth more than 1.8 million euros, to the ERC panel for the study of the human past. For the first time, the Study Center for National Reconciliation won a prestigious ERC research project as a host institution. Since the Center operates as a public institution, this success represents an important step towards expanding the circle of Slovenian institutions that host ERC projects. So far, these have always been public research organizations. At the same time, this is the third ERC research project to start an independent research career in the field of history in Slovenia.
With the research project, Dr. Tomaz Ivesic to show how a sense of common belonging was built in Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union and why these common identities developed so differently. And additionally, why after the collapse of these countries some identities survived, while others almost completely disappeared. Researchers will examine archives, newspapers, letters, petitions, opinion polls, diaries and memoirs and compare the views of political authorities with the experiences of ordinary people. Thus, the project will show how ideas about a common state and a common identity were formed from above, how they were spread by experts and institutions, and how people accepted, adapted or rejected them.
We are looking forward to this success achieved by dr. Tomaz Ivesic at the ERC tender for the start of an independent research career, in which the number of applications has been increasing rapidly in recent years and the competition is therefore increasingly fierce. ERC projects are extremely important not only for the holders, as they enable them to have creative scientific freedom and multi-year financial independence in carrying out their research, but also have a significant impact on the strengthening and internationalization of the host institution and the wider research community in Slovenia.
Strengthening scientific excellence and career development are important priorities of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth. That is why, together with the Public Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation, we are successfully supporting researchers in Slovenia in applying for ERC tenders through various measures. Todays winner, dr. Tomaz Ivesic, whom we congratulate once again on this occasion and wish him many new insights in the implementation of the ERC project.
