📋 Tender Overview
Summary
From September 4, De Maaltuin will settle in the 1st Class restaurant and the adjacent former 1st Class waiting room at Amsterdam Central Station for two months. After restoration of the murals and modernization of the technical installations, the monumental space will be temporarily opened for a unique culinary experience. NS is currently working on a structurally attractive design for the location that fits in with its unique and monumental character.
Restoration of monumental space Recently, a lot of work has been done on the restoration of the murals in the 1st Class restaurant and the adjacent former 1st Class waiting room. For this purpose, professional Gianluca Sacco was hired, who also carries out restoration work in, for example, the Vatican and Pompeii. In addition, the technical installations and the kitchen are being modernized.
Now that the major work has been completed, we can fortunately put the monumental space back into use. The Maaltuin provides a special experience at the station. And for NS it is another way to share the rich history and social significance of Amsterdam Central Station and to show that a station is not only a place where trains and people depart and arrive, but also a place where people meet. We are happy that we have found such a beautiful temporary use for this special location.
