πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The head of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics, Dr. Gaspar Moran, reported that, in the first quarter of this year, twenty-one departments registered favorable behaviors in relation to the similar period in 2025; of which twelve regions showed rates higher than national production (3.5%), according to the technical report Indicator of Departmental Productive Activity (IAPD).
Among the departments that reported the greatest increases, Cajamarca (8.6%), Madre de Dios (8.3%), Huanuco (7.4%), Puno (6.0%), Apurimac (5.7%) and Junin (5.6%) stood out, influenced by the construction, mining and agricultural sectors. Likewise, Tumbes (6.4%) and Ancash (5.3%), supported by agricultural, mining and transportation activities; In addition, Ucayali (5.4%), Lambayeque (5.2%) and Piura (4.3%), explained by the construction and agricultural sectors; and Arequipa (3.9%). Likewise, the department of Lima increased (2.7%) attributed to trade, manufacturing and transportation activities. Together, these thirteen departments concentrated 77.2% of the total produced.
On the contrary, three regions decreased their production level, this was the case of Loreto (-1.4%) and Cusco (-1.1%) due to the contraction of the hydrocarbon subsector; followed by Huancavelica (-0.9%) determined by the electricity, mining and agricultural sectors.
According to geographical areas, the development of the national economy occurred in all areas, the North (4.5%), Center (3.0%), South (2.6%) and East (1.3%). It should be noted that, in this growth, the production of the departments of Cajamarca, Puno, Junin, Ancash, Lambayeque, Piura, Arequipa and Lima had a greater impact.
Cajamarcas economy expanded by 8.6%, encouraged by the construction sector
In the first quarter of 2026, Cajamarcas production increased 8.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, accumulating eleven consecutive quarters of growth. This result was driven by the Construction sector, linked to self-construction and the investment of Local Governments in the improvement of local roads in the province of Cajamarca, as well as in educational institutions in the provinces of Cajabamba and San Ignacio; and the Regional Government in educational infrastructure, transportation and irrigation systems.
Mining activity recorded greater extraction of gold and silver in Minera Yanacocha and Compania Minera Coimolache, consolidating Cajamarca as the countrys leading gold producer. The Agricultural sector also grew, driven by increased crops for the domestic market: potatoes, paddy rice, green grain peas and corn; and by the increase in the production of cattle, fresh milk and pork.
Puno production increased by 6.0%, favored by electricity activity
Punos productive activity rose 6.0% in the first quarter of 2026, accumulating three consecutive quarters of expansion. The growth was sustained in the Electricity, Gas and Water sector, due to the greater generation of electrical energy in the Angel, Tupuri and San Gaban II hydroelectric plants, partially offset by the lower production of drinking water in EMSA Puno S.A. and EPS Aguas del Altiplano.
The Construction sector was driven by public investment by Local Governments in improving educational institutions and transportation infrastructure. The Agricultural sector registered greater cultivation of potatoes, bananas, starchy corn and green beans, complemented by the livestock production of fresh milk, cattle and alpaca fiber.
Junins productive performance rose by 5.6% driven by mining extraction
Junins economy grew 5.6% during the first quarter of 2026, reporting a positive trend for seven consecutive periods. The expansion was led by the Mining subsector, with significant volumes of zinc, copper, silver and lead, resulting in part from the base effect generated by the resumption of operations of Minera Argentum in April 2025, after its stoppage since March 2022.
The Construction sector was encouraged by self-construction and the progress of the Regional Governments works on educational infrastructure in the provinces of Chupaca, Huancayo and Chanchamayo, as well as the improvement of the Palca-Jauja departmental highway. The Transportation sector registered greater movement of passengers and cargo, linked to the festivities of Tunantada (Jauja) and the Tarmeno Carnival 2026.
Greater production of copper and silver influenced the economy of Ancash, which grew by 5.3%
In the quarter under analysis, Ancashs productive activity increased 5.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, increasing for three successive quarters. The growth was favored by Mining activity, given the greater extraction of copper and silver at the Antamina Mining Company.
In the Fishing sector, the extraction of hydrobiological resources for freezing in the ports of Chimbote, Samanco and Caleta Los Chimus increased, as well as the capture fortied up in Chimbote. The Agricultural sector recorded greater production of blueberries, hard yellow corn, asparagus and avocados--oriented to the external market and agribusiness--, complemented by livestock production of poultry, cattle and sheep.
Growth in the construction sector favored Lambayeques production by 5.2%
Lambayeques economy rose 5.2% in the first quarter of 2026, accumulating nine continuous quarters of growth. This performance was supported in the Construction sector, with the progress of works by the Regional Government in the Monsefu and Ferrenafe health establishments, and in the Enrique Lopez Albujar Public Technological Higher Education Institute in Ferrenafe.
The Agricultural sector grew due to the increased cultivation of blueberries, of which Lambayeque is the second national producer, sugar cane, hard yellow corn and avocado, complemented by the production of fresh milk and pigs. The Electricity, Gas and Water sector also expanded, due to the greater generation at the Recka and Generacion Eten-Reserva Fria thermal plants, and due to the greater productio
