π Tender Overview
AUTHORITIES are carrying out emergency bank protection works in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Region, following severe riverbank erosion along the Toe River between late August and mid-September.
The Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management has deployed personnel and heavy machinery to critical points of the Nyaungdonkyun Embankment (between miles 11/5-11/7 and 12/2-12/3). Crews are installing wooden post barriers, laying sandbags to reinforce the embankment base, and constructing temporary secondary dykes.
Concurrently, the Department of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems is implementing river-training measures, including steel wire deflector groynes, geotextile sheets, floating units, and dredging to divert the main current away from the eroded banks.
Dredging operations began on 6 September to carve a diversion channel through a sandbar, relieving hydraulic pressure on the vulnerable bank. Five backhoes have been mobilized to expedite the diversion work, alongside longterm dredging plans.
Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw inspected the sites to review operations and coordinate technical requirements. Authorities noted that joint efforts among technologically skilled employees from relevant departments, regional authorities, security personnel, firefighters, and local residents have stabilized the situation, confirming there is currently no imminent flood risk.
