Under the title A lamp and a niche Dr. Mamdouh Othman Director General of the Museum of Islamic Art and Professor Jihan Atef Director General of the Coptic Museum inaugurated the first part of the temporary exhibition of antiquities which is organized by the two museums in the framework of the fruitful cooperation between them.This exhibition aims to introduce visitors to the two museums to the collections contained in each museum as soon as they visit any of them. The Museum of Islamic Art will display a group of antiquities belonging to the Coptic Museum which in turn will display a group of the Museum of Islamic Art holdings in a temporary display.Dr. Mamdouh Othman Director General of the Museum of Islamic Art explained that the exhibition that was inaugurated at the Museum of Islamic Art displays a group of 19 artifacts from the holdings of the Coptic Museum including a group of different distinct lamps and candlesticks that were used during the Coptic era to illuminate homes and churches to carry out the tasks of their daily lives. In addition to performing religious rites. The exhibition is scheduled to last for a month and the second part of it will be organized on Wednesday July 27 2022 inside the Coptic Museum to display a distinguished collection of the Museum of Islamic Arts holdings.For her part Professor Jihan Atef Director General of the Coptic Museum explained that the selected group of pieces displayed at the Museum of Islamic Art sheds light on the philosophical and spiritual idea of lighting that was in the thought of our ancestors most notably a copper lamp in the form of a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit and an icon representing the Lady The Virgin carries Christ the Genesis manuscript and the Four Gospels.On the sidelines of the opening of the exhibition the museum organized a lecture entitled Luminating Auras through the Ages delivered by Dr. Shatha Gamal Ismail Professor of Coptic Archeology and Arts Faculty of Tourism and Hotels Helwan University. The educational department of the museum also organized an art exhibition that includes a group of art pieces inspired by the museums holdings that dealt with the means and units of lighting their development and uses in the Islamic eras and the raw materials varied between copper candlesticks glass niches candles and lanterns of different shapes and sizes in addition to organizing a workshop Artistic and educational for people of determination.The inauguration was attended by Sheikh Ashour Mabrouk Abdel Moneim Director General of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Anba Martiris Bishop of Eastern Railway and its Dependencies Sheikh Magdy Abdullah Ali Amer Director of Dawa in the Giza District Professor Heba Hamdi General Supervisor of the Central Administration of Great Museums and Dr. Asma Ismail Professor of Archeology and Islamic Architecture at the Faculty of Archeology Fayoum University and a group of archaeological ladies and gentlemen at the Museum of Islamic Art the Coptic Museum and the Museums Sector
