📋 Tender Overview
More than 80 international mobility experts participated in a guided tour of the Quito Metro on the afternoon of October 8, as part of the 'Regional Transportation Policy Dialogue 2024: Connecting roads, building a new paradigm for transportation' organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the international organization financing the Quito Metro.
The meeting point was the Ejido station, and support teams from the Quito Metro Company and the operating company guided the visitors on a trip to Talleres y Cocheras, in the Quitumbe sector, to learn more about the operation of this transportation system, which in 10 months of operation has exceeded 44 million trips. Then, on the return trip, they participated in the Metro Culture socialization activities with the users.
According to Ana María Pinto, head of the IDB's Transportation Division, "it has been a real privilege to accompany the Quito government in implementing this great project. It is a great example of how a mass transportation system can be implemented." She stressed the importance of implementing the Metro Culture to see this project as a feature of the city's identity and of appropriation for its care.
For the general manager of the Quito Metro, Juan Carlos Parra, these meetings "serve to nourish the experiences of the metros with the longest service life and allow us to strengthen the ties linked to the staff and improve the quality of the operation."
The objective of this IDB event, which was held outside the IDB headquarters in Washington DC, United States, and which brought together policy makers, experts and international organizations, is to share experiences and raise challenges to strengthen transportation as a tool for change in the social and productive architecture, mitigate climate change and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
In addition to the tour, the IDB dialogue's work agenda included participation by Roberto Luque, Minister of Transport and Public Works of Ecuador; Alex Pérez, Secretary of Mobility of the Metropolitan District of Quito; as well as experts and authorities from Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago, among other countries.
