Drinking Water Triggering Tender

πŸ“„ Tender ID: 535143522 πŸ“… Published: 11 Jul 2026

πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

Faced with the persistence of extreme heat, the lack of precipitation and the increase in consumption of drinking water, the Water Management Administration (AGE) announces the triggering of the vigilance phase. This decision, taken in consultation with the countrys main drinking water suppliers, aims to preserve available reserves and guarantee the supply of drinking water to the population in the weeks to come. Current situation For several weeks, Luxembourg has been experiencing high temperatures and a deficit of precipitation. This situation leads to a significant increase in drinking water consumption. Several suppliers now find themselves facing increased pressure on drinking water supply infrastructure. The triggering of the vigilance phase concerning the supply of drinking water at the national level constitutes a preventive measure intended to avoid a further deterioration of the situation. Reduce non-essential uses now In order to preserve drinking water reserves, the AGE encourages citizens, businesses and communities to limit non-essential uses of drinking water. The transition to the vigilance phase reinforces the call launched during the month of June to adopt actions to reduce daily consumption of drinking water. Everyone is invited to use water even more responsibly, in particular by avoiding watering lawns, limiting watering of gardens to what is strictly necessary and during the coolest times of the day, reducing the duration of showers, quickly repairing leaks and using water-consuming household appliances only when they are full. Detailed recommendations for saving drinking water are available on www.waasser.lu. Preserve the resource for priority uses This is a basic food which must as a priority make it possible to cover the essential drinking water needs of the population. The efforts made by everyone make it possible to reduce the pressure on drinking water supply infrastructures and to limit the risk of more restrictive restrictive measures if the current weather conditions were to persist. Mobilization of water suppliers Municipalities and drinking water unions are fully mobilized to monitor developments in the situation and implement the necessary measures at local level. Depending on the evolution of available resources, certain municipalities will be required to adopt restrictive measures by municipal regulation. Citizens are required to follow the instructions of their municipality under penalty of a fine. Also preserve watercourses Drought and extreme heat also affect watercourses, whose flow rates are particularly low. In order to protect aquatic environments, water withdrawals from rivers and surface water bodies in the Grand Duchy, with the exception of the Moselle and subject to the specific provisions provided for by ministerial decrees, remain prohibited until further notice.
