📋 Tender Overview
The railway between Copenhagen and Ringsted via Køge Nord is ready for trains that can run 200 km/h.
When the new line Copenhagen-Ringsted was inaugurated in June 2019, it was with a line speed of 180 km/h – with the possibility of increasing the speed at a later date. Now the restrictions on keeping the speed at 180 km/h have been lifted, and the line is now ready to let trains run at 200 km/h. However, it will be some time before a larger number of trains capable of going faster than 180 km/h take advantage of the opportunity to speed up. Initially, a few German trains to Hamburg run the maximum permitted speed.
The line between Copenhagen and Ringsted meets all the requirements for track, traction current and signalling system - and maintenance of these - necessary to increase speed.
Since the opening of the new line Copenhagen-Ringsted, maintenance has been adapted to speeds of maximum 180 km/h. In order for the line to allow trains to run at 200 km/h, Banedanmark has met 29 different requirements. These requirements are now in place and approved so that the speed can be raised to 200 km/h.
This means that the line will now be ready when DSB has the first trains ready this autumn, which can run at 200 km/h.
"Initially, it provides a better opportunity to make up for delays when trains have the ability to travel at 200 km/h. This strengthens stability and gives passengers more trains on time. In the long term, it will also be possible to cut travel time a bit," says Peter Svendsen, Traffic Director at Banedanmark.
The higher speed applies from Avedøre to Ringsted with the exception of the ends and a smaller stretch around Køge Nord, where the speed is maintained at 180 km/h.
