The conciliation group behind the Infrastructure Plan 2035 has decided to pause the strategic analysis of a new link across the Little Belt until the results of the feasibility study of a fixed link between Als and Funen are ready.
The strategic analysis of a new link across the Little Belt has been put on hold.
With the Infrastructure Plan 2035, it was decided to investigate how to ensure the necessary capacity for both road and rail traffic in the Little Belt Corridor in the future.
The Danish Road Directorate and Banedanmark were tasked with carrying out a so-called strategic analysis to identify the opportunities and challenges that will exist in connection with this project. The screening phase, which is the first step in the strategic analysis, has now been completed.
The conciliation group has assessed that the alignment must be seen in the context of the result of the ongoing feasibility study of a fixed link between Als and Funen, which is expected to be completed at the end of 2024. Therefore, the strategic analysis of a new Little Belt link is temporarily paused.
As part of the screening phase, the Danish Road Directorate and Banedanmark have also looked at the existing connections across the Little Belt. The updated calculations show that there will not be a prospect of critical congestion on the New Little Belt Bridge until after the year 2040. At the same time, it is estimated that the Old Little Belt Bridge can last at least another 50 years.
