π Tender Overview
The Management Council of the Democracy Observatory of the Attorney Generals Office (AGU) approved, this Monday (18/05), the Good Practices guide - Artificial Intelligence, Elections and Democracy, which will be launched in virtual format on June 21st. Produced by the Special Social Communication Advisory (Ascom/AGU), the guide consists of an interactive and educational digital platform, aimed at guiding the population on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in electoral disputes.
The material was approved during the 12th Ordinary Meeting of the Democracy Observatory, led by the president of the Management Council, Ricardo Lewandowski. He suggested that Ascom produce the material, showing concern about the growing use of AI to manipulate perceptions, conduct processes and misinform the population.
The guide proposes a strategy to raise awareness about the impacts of the use of artificial intelligence in the Brazilian electoral context, based on the accelerated growth of generative AI tools in Brazil and the increased consumption of digital content. The material highlights the risks associated with the dissemination of misinformation, deepfakes and manipulation of images, audios and videos during electoral periods.
In addition to the expertise and relevance of the contributions involved in preparing the guide, Lewandowski highlighted the fact that the material is written in simple language and accessible to anyone.
Among the thematic areas covered are: responsible use of AI; AI and elections; data protection; digital manipulation; digital militias; combating misinformation; role of society and collective cooperation; and reporting channels.
The platform will be available on the Democracy Observatory page on the AGU portal, and may take on other formats and dissemination strategies to reach a wider audience, whether in public bodies, educational institutions or society in general.
In addition to Minister Lewandowski, the meeting was attended by the director of the AGU Higher School and executive secretary of the Democracy Observatory, Joao Carlos Souto, and the counselors Paulo Ronaldo Ceo de Carvalho, Paula Macedo Weiss, Edilene Lobo, Katia Abreu, Georghio Tomelin, Martonio MontAlverene, Mauro Menezes and Alexandra Amaral.
