As part of the trilateral conference on October 8 and 9 2021 in Dresden the opportunities and challenges of research and innovation for sustainable economic development in Central Europe were discussed. Germany Poland and the Czech Republic want to continue to pool their strengths in research and innovation in order to strengthen the Central European regions and provide impetus for regional development throughout Europe.At the invitation of Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek in cooperation with the Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer President Wolfgang Schuble the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki the Czech Vice Minister for Trade and Industry Petr Oko and other representatives from politics science and science attended the trilateral science platform Research from Poland the Czech Republic and Germany together.Germany Poland and the Czech Republic have been working together successfully in the fields of research and innovation for many years. The most recent example of this is the German-Polish funding program Digitization of the Economy which is intended to contribute to a jointly coordinated strategic innovation policy. The key players are small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs and start-ups.With the German-Czech program for the promotion of research projects in the field of Industry 4.0 joint projects of German and Czech SMEs with the involvement of universities and non-university research institutions from both countries are funded.The Polish-German research center CASUS in Grlitz focuses on the research of complex systems The unique combination of an open center for data-intensive and interdisciplinary systems research offers enormous potential for scientific discoveries and technological progress.Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek explainsto vigorously promote the strengthening of technological sovereignty from the center of the European Union. We want to learn from each other and in close cooperation tackle the challenges that lie ahead of us such as climate change digitization and demographic development. This includes in particular that we build new economic cycles in the coal regions affected by structural change by investing in research and development and create high-quality jobs with attractive prospects on site. Anyone who gets out of coal must also enter powerfully into new promising future fields. How this clever interlinking of structural policy and innovation policy can succeed is the focus of our international science conference in Dresden. The Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony Michael Kretschmer explainsWith an even closer network of the regions the triangle can become a scientific and economic center in the heart of Europe. Promising new collaborations have started with the German-Polish institute CASUS and the establishment of the German-Czech performance center of Fraunhofer IWU. The planned large research centers in the Saxon coal fields will also provide important impulses. Now it is important to turn visions into innovations and to establish transnational networks with the research institutions for the industry and service economy of the future. Saxony is a bridge builder communication platform and reliable partner and therefore the ideal place to discuss the potential of new collaborations in science and research.
