The recently modernized monorail from Olomouc to Uni?ov has been selected for pilot operation under the supervision of the European Train Control System (ETCS). According to the statistics of the Railway Administration, since the end of last November, the system has been working correctly in almost one hundred percent of cases. In the last two months, the situation has improved by more than 50 percent. In connection with the preparation for operation under the exclusive supervision of the ETCS on other lines, stress tests of the entire system will also continue.
Up to five hundred local and fast trains run to the so-called Uni?ovka every week. All of them have been running under the exclusive supervision of ETCS for more than a year. Since the end of November last year, Správa železnic has recorded only a few cases per week when the European signalling system caused an emergency stop of trains due to various technical reasons. As a rule, the system performed its function correctly in more than 99 percent of cases.
In the last week of January, the system even showed one hundred percent functionality. We recorded one emergency stop of the train, but it was due to a level crossing failure. In this case, ETCS worked correctly.
In mid-January, Správa železnic carried out ETCS stress tests on the corridor section from B?eclav to Staré M?sto near Uherské Hradišt?. By the end of the summer holidays, we plan to carry out another six tests, which will cover all sections where operation under the exclusive supervision of ETCS will be introduced from the beginning of next year. The tests will focus on verifying the functionality of the system settings, such as the correct operation of the equipment and communication between the carrier and the traffic control.
