The more than 150-year-old station building in the Central Bohemian town of Caslav is awaiting a complete reconstruction. The Railway Administration selected the contractor, which was STRABAG Rail. It submitted the lowest bid of CZK 39,974,721. The historic building with typical elements of railway architecture will gain modern check-in areas, which will also include public toilets. Passengers will appreciate barrier-free access, as well as bicycle boxes and covered parking spaces for bicycles. The work will last until the spring of next year.
The station building in ?aslav is located near the city centre. It is widely used not only by passengers from fast trains and passenger trains on the line from Prague to HavlΓ?k?v Brod, but also from the local line to Ε½leby and T?emoΕ‘nice. It dates back to 1867 and has retained the typical style of railway architecture to this day.
The façade and roof of the building will be renovated. On the ground floor, there will be a modern check-in hall with a ticket office and new toilets for the public. Retail premises, transport offices, dormitories and technology rooms will also be reconstructed throughout the building.
The adjacent areas are also modified. On the street side of the building, the wooden shelter will be removed and the entrance will be barrier-free. Cycle boxes and covered parking spaces for a total of 12 bikes will be installed. They will be followed by a space for sorted waste.
A complete reconstruction of the trackage is also being prepared at the station itself, including new platforms and an underpass. This work is expected to begin in three years.
