Today an action was held to increase the safety of navigation on the Adriatic under the name Safe Navigation 2022.All available vessels and employees of all port authorities from Pula to Dubrovnik were involved in the action with the associated port offices and the Service for the Supervision and Management of Maritime Traffic VTS.The goal of the campaign was to warn and inform all participants in maritime traffic and to protect them from maritime accidents during the period of increased traffic during the tourist season when there is also a significant increase in the presence of domestic and foreign vessels in the Adriatic.During the season the traffic load on the Adriatic is extremely high when we have about 700 thousand ships entering and leaving the port while during June July and August about 100 thousand domestic boats about 60 thousand foreign vessels and about 4.5 thousand charter yachts sail the Adriatic.As much as 50 of all maritime accidents and incidents occur during the summer months while a total of 60 of all annual search and rescue operations are carried out in these three summer months.State Secretary for the Sea and EU Funds Josip Bilaverhe pointed out The special emphasis of surveillance activities during todays action is aimed at controlling illegal sailing speed and gliding in an illegal sea area which accounts for over 60 of total violations. Supervision will also be carried out over boat rentals unscrupulous swimmers and divers passenger boats for one-day trips and other participants in maritime transport. Finally I would like to point out that this is the first but certainly not the last action during this season. I ask all participants in maritime transport to respect the sea take care of yourself and other participants in nautical transport said State Secretary Bilaver.
