Referring to his countrys experience, he said that Chile designed and promoted the National Lithium Strategy, a model that seeks to expand the production of this metal through strategic and sustainable public-private alliances.
Along these lines, Williams highlighted the importance of looking at strategic minerals in an articulated way, because it is not only extraction, but also environmental and social balance.
In Chile we have moved towards responsible mining and also generated confidence in large investors, both public and private, he stressed.
The former southern minister maintained that, if we add the lithium resources of Bolivia, Argentina, Chile and those that Peru may have, it would represent more than 50% of the worlds lithium resources. Therefore, I believe that collaboration and complementarity between countries is essential to transform them into power, he said.
Finally, he pointed out that there is a very active market for critical minerals, and that copper and lithium are essential metals. There are others that may also be available, rare earths, cobalt, gold, silver, rhenium. The geological riches are indisputable, he remarked.
