Costa Rica Does Tender

Costa Rica intervened in the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States OAS to ratify its support for the resolution that does not recognize the legitimacy of the Nicols Maduro regime as of January 10 2019 and made an appeal for the carrying out new presidential elections with all the necessary guarantees of a free fair transparent democratic and legitimate process as the Venezuelan people deserve.Costa Rica as a country of peace and in frank support for multilateralism has supported the resolution adopted this morning calling for the holding of new presidential elections with all the necessary guarantees of a free fair transparent democratic and legitimate as the Venezuelan people deserve as well as other measures that have as objective the restitution of democratic order in Venezuela an obligation that falls on all the member countries of the Organization of American States OAS that have signed the Charter and the Inter-American Democratic Charter said Permanent Representative Costa Rica to the OAS Ambassador Montserrat Solano Carboni.The diplomat said that Costa Rica has maintained a constant committed and serious work of monitoring the situation in Venezuela for many months years. This monitoring has allowed us to see the accelerated deterioration not only of democratic institutions but of the rule of law serious and constant violations of the human rights of the Venezuelan population and the development of a humanitarian crisis that now impacts the entire region one of the biggest challenges as an American Community.He recalled that Costa Rica endorsed his unequivocal and firm condemnation of the breakdown of the constitutional order and the rule of law in Venezuela and stressed that only through the restoration of democracy to the rule of law and respect for human rights will be able to attend to the causes of the crisis that this country is experiencing.Ambassador Solano Carboni pointed out that for Costa Rica the electoral process carried out in Venezuela on May 20 2018 lacked legitimacy because it did not have the participation of all Venezuelan political actors nor the presence of independent international observers. with the minimum international standards and guarantees necessary for it to be considered a free fair transparent democratic and pluralistic process. For this reason we state that we do not recognize the legitimacy of the Nicols Maduro regime that starts today he said.He added that his country consistent with its commitment to the promotion of democracy the rule of law and aware of the need for the regime to fulfill all its obligations in the field of human rights in accordance with international human rights law unites the call for the constitutional order to be restored in Venezuela as soon as possible .Yesterday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Costa Rica would not participate today in the acts of inauguration of Nicols Maduro in correspondence with the joint determination of the countries of the Lima Group.
