Cook Islands Ambassador Tender

The Ambassador of the European Union EU for the Pacific His Excellency Sujiro Seam presented his credentials to the Kings Representative in the Cook Islands His Excellency Sir Tom Marsters in Rarotonga on Wednesday 07 December 2022.Ambassador Seam stressed the EUs long standing relation and friendship with Cook Islands and its people based on a legacy of common values and cooperation.Cook Islands is a key partner for the European Union in the Pacific in the context of its new Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. Our close friendship with Cook Islands is based on the shared values of democracy human rights and the rule of law. The EU remains committed to contributing to the wellbeing of the Cook Island people particularly on climate change resilience biodiversity ocean human rights and peace and security Ambassador Seam said.Following the credential ceremony Ambassador Seam met with the Honourable Prime Minister of Cook Islands Mark Brown Secretary of Health Mr. Bob Williams Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Ms. Tepaeru Herrmann and other senior members of the government to discuss topics of common interest and to reaffirm the excellent relations between the Cook Islands and the EU.Ambassador Seam also met with the diplomatic corps and the civil society organisations to discuss current developments in the Pacific and other shared interests including gender equality and violence against women and girls Covid-19 response and recovery democracy and the rule of law.Ambassador Seam represents the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council under the authority of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Ambassador Seam prior to his posting as Head of the European Union Delegation for the Pacific was the Ambassador of France to Fiji Kiribati Nauru Tonga and Tuvalu. Ambassador Seam is a French career diplomat and is based in Suva Fiji.
