Construction of new bridge over Arroyo Cufré began

Construction work began on the new north bridge over the Cufré stream, located at kilometer 106,820 of Route 1, on the border between the departments of Colonia and San José.
The works are part of the project “Route 1: Bridges over Aº Pereira, Aº Pavón, Aº La Boyada and Aº Cufré”, with the aim of improving circulation conditions and adapting the road infrastructure to current traffic, cargo and safety requirements.
The intervention includes the demolition of the existing bridge and its subsequent reconstruction with new structural features, designed according to modern road safety and vehicle containment criteria.
Among the main improvements planned, the expansion of the circulation width stands out. While the current bridges have a carriageway of approximately 6 meters, the new structures will have a width of 11.20 meters, also incorporating shoulders and New Jersey-type reinforced concrete safety barriers.
In addition, adaptation tasks will be carried out on the accesses to adjust them to the new traffic width and optimize road safety in the area.
The new bridges, in charge of the company José Cujó S.A., will be prepared to withstand the current loads and greater demands of heavy traffic, improving both the structural capacity and the hydraulic conditions and safety for users of Route 1.
Affectation in circulation
Due to the execution of the works, circulation will be affected between kilometers 106,183 and 107,330 of Route 1. During this period, vehicular traffic will be reduced and will be diverted to the south road.
Likewise, given the width restrictions and safety conditions implied by bidirectional circulation on the existing bridge, the circulation of agricultural machinery will not be permitted on that section while this traffic configuration remains in force.
In order to guarantee connectivity, agricultural vehicles must use the Camino al Paso Cufré as an alternative route.
Drivers are recommended to plan their transfers in advance, respect the signs posted along the section and take extreme precautions when driving through the work area, in order to avoid inconveniences and guarantee the safety of workers and road users.
