The Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated, through the Internal Working Groups for the Determination of Refugee and Stateless Status, in the Technical assistance workshop to strengthen knowledge in protection and activation of routes for the care of migrant and refugee children and adolescents and their families convened by the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare - ICBF, to provide technical assistance on the care route for children and/or adolescents with international protection needs.
The workshop, which took place from December 11 to 13, was attended by the administrative authorities of La Guajira (Defensores and Comisaria de Familia), the National Registry of Civil Status; the Protection Directorate of the ICBF - Bogota, D.C., as well as representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - UNHCR and UNICEF in Colombia. Around 60 people received the training.
In order to support the strengthening of capacities in the area of International Protection, especially the approach to the procedure to determine the refugee and stateless status of children and/or adolescents (NNA), the Internal Working Groups on Refuge and Statelessness have been supporting the on-site training of administrative authorities. These workshops have allowed both the Defenders and Family Commissioners, as well as the officials of the Registry Offices of the areas served, to have tools to present the applications in the cases that are within their knowledge, making use of the forms and channels provided for this purpose.
This workshop adds to the initiative of this ministry to socialize the procedures for determining refugee and stateless status that have been carried out in various cities of the country.
