📋 Tender Overview
1. As a follow-up to the Meeting of Presidents of South America on May 30, 2023, the South American countries adopted today, on October 5, 2023, a Roadmap for the Integration of South America, with the aim of resuming regular dialogue to boost regional integration, promote cooperation and project the voice of South America in the world.
2. Considering the challenges facing South America, the Roadmap highlights the importance of prioritizing concrete initiatives with a positive impact on the living conditions of populations and that do not duplicate the efforts already undertaken in other cooperation mechanisms.
3. Taking into account the interest in continuing to strengthen the dialogue in specific areas, the Roadmap includes a preliminary calendar of sectoral meetings and indicates spaces that could be used to continue strengthening the South American dialogue and the process of implementing the Brasilia Consensus on the margins of regional and extra-regional events.
4. Noting point 7 of the Brasilia Consensus, the Roadmap for the Integration of South America is based on an extensive assessment of the experiences of South American integration mechanisms in the 17 issues that were identified as the initial focus of attention by the Presidents of the region, namely: Climate Change, Combating Transnational Organized Crime, Trade and Investment, Digital Connectivity, Cross-Border Cooperation, Defense, Social Development, Education and Culture, Energy, Financing for Development, Gender, Disaster Risk Management, Infrastructure and Transport, Productive Integration, Migration, Health and Food Security. It is also advancing concrete follow-up initiatives that can be explored to deepen cooperation and integration in South America.
5. In order to allow adequate follow-up of the different initiatives, it was agreed that the regular dialogue will henceforth include annual strategic meetings between the Presidents of South America; meetings of Ministers for Foreign Affairs at least twice a year; frequent meetings between national coordinators; the creation of sectoral contact networks to promote exchange and cooperation on specific issues of common interest; and dialogues with extra-regional partners.
