πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, met with the Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Negotiation Mechanism on Security Council Reform at the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly, Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations, Banaiyi, and Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations, Mr. MaΕ‘ike, in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that China is the first founding member and permanent member of the UN Security Council to sign the UN Charter, and China has always firmly upheld the authority of the UN and supported the UN in playing a central role in international affairs. China's development is the growth of the world's peace forces and the strengthening of stability factors, and Chinese-style modernization will provide new development opportunities for the world. China has always called for win-win cooperation, opposed the zero-sum game, and advocated working together to make the cake bigger for more countries and peoples. China stands ready to work with the international community to advance the reform and construction of the global governance system based on the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, support the continuous development and improvement of the United Nations, and jointly promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Wang Yi pointed out that in today's chaotic world, all countries expect the United Nations to play a leading role in addressing global challenges, and the Security Council to shoulder its important responsibility for maintaining international peace and security entrusted by the UN Charter. Reform of the Security Council is an integral part of the overall reform of the United Nations. China supports the two Co-Chairs in proceeding from the long-term development of the United Nations and the common interests of all Member States, to promote the reform of the Security Council in the right direction, to increase the representation and voice of developing countries, to give more small and medium-sized countries the opportunity to participate in decision-making, and for all Member States to benefit from the reform. It is necessary to put the maintenance of international solidarity and cooperation in an important position, adhere to the status of the main channel in the intergovernmental negotiation process, guide Member States to hold serious and full consultations, and seek the broadest consensus of the international community.

Banaiyi and Marshk highly appreciated China's long-term commitment to strengthening the role of the United Nations, upholding multilateralism and upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and were willing to maintain communication and coordination with other member states, including China, on the issue of Security Council reform.
