On March 16, the overhaul and environmental improvement project of Beijing East Fourth Ring Road (South of Siyuan Bridge - West of Shibalidian Bridge) was fully started. The construction was carried out in accordance with the steps of first underground, then above ground, first facilities, then road surface, first main road, then auxiliary road. It is planned to be completed within this year. At that time, the traffic efficiency of East Fourth Ring Road is expected to increase by 15% to 20%.
Beijing Fourth Ring Road is 65.3 kilometers long, of which the East Fourth Ring Road was first built and has been in operation for more than 20 years, far exceeding the design service life. The road surface has many cracks, ruts and other diseases. This overhaul project follows the urban renewal concept driven by the linear spatial transformation of the road, and achieves comprehensive improvements in road traffic capacity, technical conditions, road appearance, safety protection and intelligent transportation, creating a new four-ring road for citizens that are smooth, standardized, green, safe and intelligent.
This overhaul broke through the previous single road maintenance model, and shortened the comprehensive construction period through integrated transformation and optimization of traffic facilities and intelligent networking equipment, road facilities and green landscape lighting, under-bridge space and road environment governance, etc. The construction was all occupied by road at night with the lowest traffic flow.
