π Tender Overview
The first measurement station of the Latitudinal Network of Multiparametric Stations was inaugurated at the Union Glacier Joint Scientific Polar Station which is only 1000 kilometers from the South Pole. The initiative led by the Chilean Antarctic Institute Instituto Antrtico Chileno - INACH a facility subordinate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to install 21 measuring stations at various points along the Antarctic Peninsula. With their help Chile wants to gain basic information about the role of the Antarctic in modeling and modulating the global climate. The measuring stations complement an initiative launched at the beginning of this year by the Ministry of Science Technology Knowledge and Innovation in close cooperation with the Ministries for Foreign Affairs and Defense and the Environment the Climate Change Observatory is to create a decentralized network of sensors from 8000 kilometers in length from northern Chile to Antarctica which will provide data on temperature precipitation ice masses and other variables.
