In an act that marks a milestone in the urban transformation of Maipú, the Minister of Public Works, Jessica López, together with prominent authorities, cut the ribbon for the inauguration of the Primo de Rivera square. This flagship event is part of the Good Neighbor Program, a national initiative that seeks to improve the quality of life of those who reside near road concessions.
This morning the launch of the Good Neighbor Program took place with the inauguration of the Primo de Rivera square in Maipú.
The Good Neighbor Program seeks to improve the living conditions of the people who live near the concessioned works.
"Good Neighbor" has a budget of 370 billion pesos destined to make a set of works throughout the country, in the sense of improving the safety and habitability of the neighbors of concessioned highways.
"For us as the Ministry of Public Works this moment is a great joy because it allows us to start the launch of a set of works that have been developed in the last year. These works seek in a certain way to attenuate and mitigate the pain that means for 20 years living next to a highway with an infernal noise and with spaces that had been abandoned, "Jessica López, Minister of Public Works.
What is the Good Neighbor Program all about?
In a first stage, the Good Neighbor Program defined 185 improvement works in the regions of Antofagasta, Atacama, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O'Higgins, Biobío, La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos.
Works for the Vespucio Sur highway
In the case of the Metropolitan Region there are 59 works, 42 of them in the 9 communes impacted by the Vespucio Sur highway:
Cerrillos
The Cistern
La Florida
The Farm
The Mirror
Macul
Peñalolén
San Ramon
Maipú
The above is equivalent to approximately 120 thousand neighbors living in the environment and includes:
Green areas
Improvement of gateways
Lighting
Improvements in road safety
Acoustic screens, among others
Among the works that are contemplated in the Vespucio Sur highway are:
Installation of 63 Security Cameras
44 awnings and shaded areas
7 artistic mosaics
30 artistic paintings on pillars
84 games for kids and teens
96 thousand species for landscaping (plants, trees and shrubs)
2,020 lighting poles and luminaires
3,162 Furniture and landscaping
Along with this, in 16 kilometers of the 23.5 km that the highway has, acoustic screens will be installed.
