During his years in the Navy he has stood out for being a multi-purpose vessel as well as for the commitment determination and professionalism of all personnel who have had the honor of serving on board this Unit.The General Service Patrolman - 71 Countermaster Micalvi commanded by Frigate Captain Cristian Mitrovich turned 27 since the christening and launching of the hull at the Shipyards and Masterpieces of the Navy ASMAR. This ship was the first of the six Taitao-class patrol vessels that were built entirely by ASMAR and whose construction began on September 27 1991 Admiral Jorge Martinez Busch being Commander in Chief of the Navy.The christening and launching of the ships hull took place at the Talcahuano shipyard on September 12 1992 in a ceremony presided over by the then president of the republic Patricio Aylwin Azocar his wife Leonor Oyarzn de Aylwin being the godmother of the ships christening and who will pronounce the following words on the occasion of the ceremony I baptize you with the name of Countermaster Micalvi wishing you a long windy wind later breaking the traditional bottle of champagne at the first attempt.Patrolman Micalvi was officially incorporated into the service on March 3 1993 being his first base port Puerto Williams fulfilling tasks as a logistic support vessel of the then Torpederas Command and zurking the southern channels for approximately 11 years after which he was assigned to its new and current base port Puerto Montt a city where it arrived on February 9 2004 in response to the growing development of maritime activity in the dependent jurisdiction of the former Chilo Naval District currently Fifth Naval Zone.In this new operation theater eminently maritime its main roles are directly related to this area such as patrolling surveillance and coastal control and inland waters logistic support to task units and isolated areas signaling maintenance maritime control and control of water pollution the development of hydrographic and oceanographic works and the boarding and assault of ships in waters of national jurisdiction.In addition during these years he has completed tasks as a dental medical vessel in support of the inhabitants of that dismembered area of the national territory as well as participating in the support of the community in natural disasters such as the earthquake and tsunami in the Aysn fjord 2007 and the eruption of the Chaitn volcano 2010 an opportunity in which he adopted his current pet a dog that has become the oldest member of the endowment Cape 1 Squid.In these 27 years the PSG Micalvi has sailed from Antarctica to Panama City fulfilling the most diverse activities and contributing to the tasks of the current Mission Areas of the Navy such as Maritime Security and Interests International Cooperation National Emergency and Civil Protection and Contribution to National Development and State Action among others. All of the above thanks to its versatile vessel characteristic and the commitment determination and professionalism of all personnel who have the honor of having served on board this unit.
