π Tender Overview
Summary
As of September 2, Castricum station is officially an Outer Gate. Travelers are guided directly to the dunes from the station with clear signage and adapted walking and cycling routes. More and more people are discovering nature by train. With the arrival of Buitenpoorten, it will become easier and more attractive for travelers to reach nature reserves sustainably.
Anyone who gets off at a Buitenpoort station will immediately notice the connection with nature. After getting a cup of coffee, follow the signs and end up in nature. At NS, we believe it is important to take our travelers to their destination sustainably. And of course, especially if it concerns a destination in nature.
Irma Winkenius, NS Regional Director
NS, the province of North Holland and the municipality of Castricum are working together to make sustainable travel to the dunes more attractive. Castricum station is, after Bussum Zuid and Baarn, the third Buitenpoort in a growing national network where nature and train come together. With recognizable route information and improved walking and cycling routes, parties want to entice travelers to leave their car at home and come to nature by train. The pressure on nature reserves is increasing and parking is often limited on busy days. By designing stations such as Buitenpoort and making routes clearly visible, the train becomes a logical and attractive sustainable alternative for trips to the dunes. Practical for nature loversFrom Castricum station, new signs and route maps show the way to the nearest dune and hiking areas.
