The action of increased monitoring of maritime traffic was held yesterday under the name Safe Navigation 2026 Sibenik, in the Sibenik water area.
Implementation of the activities of increased monitoring of maritime traffic in the Sibenik water area
A coordinated action of increased maritime traffic surveillance with an emphasis on navigation safety was carried out yesterday, August 20, in the area of navigation safety surveillance of the Sibenik Port Authority and associated port offices, in accordance with the Ordinance on the safety of maritime navigation in internal sea waters and the territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia and the manner and conditions of monitoring and managing maritime traffic.
During the duration of the action, the participants were provided with information support from the Service for Monitoring and Management of Maritime Traffic (VTS), from where reports were sent in real time about all observed areas of increased vessel traffic, violations in navigation and unidentified and identified maritime objects.
Results of the implementation of the intensified surveillance action
The intensified inspections as part of todays action were mostly aimed at controlling illegal sailing speed in the unauthorized areas of Sibeniks water area, in addition to monitoring the rental of vessels, passenger boats for one-day trips, as well as other participants in maritime traffic.
16 employees of the Sibenik Port Authority and associated branches participated in the action with 4 vessels, which sailed a total of 124 nautical miles yesterday between 10:00 and 18:00.
As part of the action, 30 inspections were carried out, based on which a total of 8 violations of regulations and rules of safe navigation were determined.
Most of the violations, in 5 cases, were determined due to non-compliance with the prescribed maximum allowed sailing speed (gliding), while the remaining violations were determined for the most part in the domain of the technical correctness of the vessel and omissions in the part of ownership and validity of the administration of vessels and crews.
A total of fines in the amount of EUR 4,580.00 were imposed, of which the largest part refers to the established violations of improper sailing speed in prohibited areas. Fines in the amount of 2,536.00 euros were collected from the violators.

Monitoring of maritime traffic throughout the year and increased activities during the boating season
The implementation of intensified inspections will continue in the continuation of this years tourist, i.e., boating season, due to the significant increase in the presence of both domestic and foreign vessels in the Croatian part of the Adriatic.
The daily and increased presence of harbor master officers at sea and immediate action against violators has a positive effect on the overall reduction, as well as the prevention of maritime accidents and incidents.
Also, as part of the actions, during the implementation of surveillance measures, harbor master officers regularly check the level of knowledge of the basic regulations on safe navigation, most often among boat managers, sailors and users of other recreational high-speed vessels, and, if necessary, inform them about the importance of knowing and adhering to them, before setting sail and during sea navigation.
