📋 Tender Overview
Senator Plinio Valerio (PSDB-AM), in a statement on Tuesday (25), defended the paving of BR-319, a highway that connects Manaus to Porto Velho. According to him, the lack of infrastructure in the region isolates Amazonas of the rest of the country and compromises the local supply.
The senator criticized environmental agencies such as the Ministry of Environment and Ibama, as well as Funai, for not authorizing the work, and said that the negative ignores the needs of the population. The parliamentarian pointed out that Manaus, a city with more than 2.3 million inhabitants, does not have an asphalted land connection with the rest of Brazil, depending exclusively on air and river transportation.
-I stop the importance of BR-319 when the lack of infrastructure becomes a death sentence. The Covid-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on the Amazon, exposing structural and logistics weaknesses that aggravated the regions health crisis, he said.
Plinio Valerio also stressed the challenges faced throughout BR-319. He noted that during the rainy season, trucks jump on the road, making it difficult to transport goods and medical inputs; In drought, dust and holes make the trip even more precarious. He compared the situation with the infrastructure of other countries and questioned the fact that while there is a paved connection with Venezuela, land access to the rest of Brazil remains neglected.
The pandemic showed that the lack of adequate infrastructure can have lethal consequences. It had and will have, until they recognize our right, until they recognize the right of a people who insist on being recognized as Brazilian, a people who want to be Brazilian, but a people who also want the rights of Brazilians - concluded.
