The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) was part of the panel “Amazonia and the next challenges for Science and Technology policies” of the RNP 2023 Forum - Emerging Applications. Held between Tuesday and Thursday (29th and 31st), the event aims to debate the role of ICT in the development of education and research in Brazil.
During the panel, guests presented ideas and strategies to boost the development of the Amazon region. Minister Waldez Góes highlighted the importance of the Amazon and emphasized the Federal Government's commitment to investing in science and technology for the regional development of traditional communities.
“There is a clear concern to ensure that technological progress benefits not only the large centers, but also reaches riverside dwellers, extractivists, small producers, indigenous people and quilombolas. I recognize the importance of expanding regional development beyond large initiatives, also encompassing small producers”, stated the minister.
The minister also pointed out the relevance of the debate to seek solutions and exchange experiences and highlighted the investment of the New PAC in the region. “Participating in this debate and contributing to the dialogue in search of solutions for the Amazonian population is an honor. Furthermore, it is crucial to take advantage of the knowledge already generated in the region, considering the significant investment in Science and Technology through the New PAC for the Amazon, announced by President Lula”, he added.
The panel also included contributions from Carlos Américo Pacheco, director-president of the Administrative Technical Council of the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp); Patricia Ellen, partner-president of Systemiq; and Rafael Pontes Lima, manager of the Technical Advisory for Federative and Parliamentary Relations at RNP.
In the speakers' speech, issues were raised such as the relevance of the Amazon for Brazil, the Ecological Transition Plan and development actions that combine technological science and can bring, as a consequence, productivity, improvement in the regional economy, combating inequalities and climate change .
The event
The RNP 2023 Forum is a space for meetings, relationships and updates on the main trends in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). For three days, the event brings together the main actors of the national Science, Technology and Innovation system to debate the role of ICT in the development of education and research in Brazil. This year, the Forum's theme is Emerging Applications in Education, Science and Culture. The program includes lectures, panels and workshops, as well as an exhibition area with several stands.
