On the occasion of the commemorations of the Bicentennial of Independence the Alexandre de Gusmao Foundation re-releases in facsimile format the work Historia do Brasil nos velhas mapa by Jaime Cortesao.The two volumes of this publication are the result of a historiographical study that the Portuguese author began to develop as a professor at the Rio Branco Institute where from 1944 to 1950 he taught the history of cartography geography of the borders of Brazil and mapoeconomy.As a complement to the relaunch of this book Ambassador Affonso Santos organized a new volume bringing together original maps from the first edition additional maps not included in the first two volumes and treatise texts cited in the work in addition to an onomastic glossary with information about navigators cartographers geographers and personalities mentioned by the author in his text.
