The Integrated Network of Genetic Profile Banks RIBPG a strategic project of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security reached the milestone of 100000 genetic materials from criminally convicted individuals. The number represents an increase of 14 times more registered than in the beginning of 2019 when this number was just under 7000 convict profiles.Since 2019 through the National Public Security Secretariat the Ministry has invested around BRL 150 million BRL 80 million in 2020 alone and BRL 35 million in 2019. The genetic profiles bank has helped so far in more than 2800 criminal investigations in Brazil.Altogether there are more than 127 thousand profiles registered with the RIBPG. Among them are places of remains references of missing persons unidentified remains convicted and criminally identified.On November 28 the Criminal Execution Law which provides for the collection of genetic profiles as a form of criminal identification completed 9 years in force.
