Brazil Containers Movement Tender

📄 Tender ID: 515551262 📅 Published: 07 Mar 2025

📋 Tender Overview

The movement of containers in the port of Santos had a significant increase in January this year. In all, there were 460,800 yours, a growth of 12.1% compared to January 2024. This is the highest amount recorded for the period since the beginning of the historical series. The information is from the Santos Port Authority, responsible for the management of the complex.

In the period, the main products embarked were corn, with 1.378 million tons (31.6%increase), pulp, with 670,731 tons (+23.2%), meats, with 184,681 tons (+21.9%) and coffee, with 234,978 tons (+5.2%). Among the landed products, the highlights are LPG (liquefied gas), with 78,454 tons (+106.1%), salt, with 92.174 tons (+186.4%) and disodium sulfate, with 75.152 tons (+198.4%). The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, points out that the result is the result of the high operational capacity of the largest port in Latin America. According to him, the federal government has been working with planning and management to meet the needs of the Brazilian people. By the guidance of President Lula, we are expanding operations at the port of Santos, with the auction of Tecon Santos 10, expected to be the largest in the history of the port modal. To expand the ability of our ports is to bring more food to Brazilians, he said.

Growth Trend
The result reflects the growth trend in the movement of containers throughout the port sector. In 2024, the port of Santos moved 42.6 million tons - 17.8% higher than the previous year. The movement of all Brazilian ports reached 153.3 million tons of loading via container last year - 20% more than in 2023. The increase in volume positively impacted the trade balance, which obtained the second best result of its history last year, according to data released in late February by the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq). The transportation of loading in containers is essential for the flow of goods, as 95% of all exports in the country passes through ports. The modality optimizes time and reduces operating costs, as well as being an advantageous option for large volumes.

Investment
The Port of Santos is the largest port complex in Latin America and the main Brazilian port in busy load values. It accounts for at least 29% of Brazilian foreign trade. The Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPOR) and Antaq recently resumed the concession project of the Santos 10 container terminal (Tecon Santos 10). With expected investments of R 5.6 billion in 25 years, the terminal should increase by 50% the total capacity of the port. On the 18th, MPor and Antaq will hold one to discuss the documents regarding the lease of the megaterminal. Another planned work is the construction of the underwater tunnel linking Santos and Guaruja, which is part of the new PAC and is expected to auction in August this year. These infrastructure investments create conditions for Santos to become a hub port for Latin America, with a megaterminal capable of receiving large load volumes that will then be dispatched to smaller ports spread across the continent.
