27.01.2025 Better passenger information and new technologies for passengers at stations and stopsPolskie Linie Kolejowe will modernize the passenger information system at stations and stops. Changes to the Companys internal regulations allow the use of e-paper technology on displays and the installation of photovoltaic panels as their power source. New solutions will reduce electricity consumption and extend the life of devices. LED technology will be used more widely.Technical progress in passenger communication systems and experience gained in the implementation of investments have allowed Polskie Linie Kolejowe to develop new guidelines for the executive elements of the Central Dynamic Passenger Information System (CSDIP). The changes introduced include the possibility of using electronic paper technology in displays at stations and stops of local importance, which have not been equipped with visual information so far. Electronic paper is a solution that resembles traditional printed text (similar to e-book readers). E-paper displays will present information about upcoming train departures and, optionally, a poster timetable. The messages will be continuously refreshed. The devices will be powered using photovoltaic panels and batteries. The use of LED technology in edge displays (presenting the nearest trains departing from a given track) will reduce electricity consumption and increase the life of the devices. Passengers will receive displays with better contrast and viewing angles, which will improve the visibility of the displayed information, especially in sunny places. Additionally, servicing the devices will be cheaper and easier, as the display screens will be located in one housing. Currently, edge displays are a set of two independent devices. This solution will reduce the costs of network infrastructure. The new, lighter design of the displays will provide an easier way of installation. In addition, changes have been introduced in all types of displays in the currently used technology, which will reduce their production costs. The requirement to install analog clocks has been abandoned. Their place on the displays will be taken by digital clocks. Changes have been made to the requirements for the design of displays, which will facilitate the operation of devices, and the requirements for the number of power supplies and the level of housing resistance have been optimized. Additionally, the guidelines for the time of eliminating failures in communication systems with travelers have been specified. This will reduce the interruptions in the availability of passenger information at stations and passenger stops.
