CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) -- A total of 1,434 students and teachers in the municipalities of Jones and Benito Soliven of Isabela are now better equipped for digital learning after the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region II continued the rollout of the Bayanihan SIM under its JuanSIM ng Bayan Program. Led by DICT Regional Director Engr. Pinky T. Jimenez, the initiative provided free SIM cards to beneficiaries from various public schools in the two municipalities during distribution activities held on February 6 and 9, 2026. The SIM cards are intended to support access to online learning resources and digital communication tools, Jimenez said. The team first visited Papan Elementary School in Jones to introduce the JuanSIM ng Bayan, Bayanihan SIM Project, and distribute SIM cards to four schools in the municipality. This was followed by another distribution activity on Feb. 9 at Placer-Dagupan Elementary School in Benito Soliven, where 10 more schools received assistance through the program. DICT Region II Chief of the Technical Operations Division Magdalena Gomez said each Bayanihan SIM card comes with 25GB of monthly data allocation for one year, which enables teachers to better prepare lessons, access updated instructional materials, and maintain communication with their students. Gomez added that the SIM cards provide faster access to online educational content, research materials, and other digital tools essential to modern education, particularly for learners in remote communities. She said the continued distribution of Bayanihan SIM marks a significant step in strengthening digital access in the education sector and ensuring that no learner is left behind in todays increasingly technology-driven environment. Beyond providing connectivity support, the program underscores the growing importance of internet access as a basic necessity in education, Gomez said. Through the sustained implementation of the JuanSIM ng Bayan Program, DICT Region II reaffirms its commitment to promoting equal learning opportunities in the digital age, ensuring inclusive access to education through the spirit of Digital Bayanihan.
