The European Commission monitors Member States digital progress and publishes annual reports on the Digital Economy and Society Index DESI. The DESI index ranks Member States according to their level of digitization and analyzes their relative progress over the past five years taking into account their starting point.The Commission has adjusted DESI to align it with the four main strands set out in the Commissions proposal for a Decision establishing a political agenda Road to the Digital Decade which is currently being discussed by the European Parliament and the Council. The proposal sets EU-level targets to be achieved by 2030 to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable digital transformation in all sectors of the economy.According to the 2022 ranking of the index for the penetration of digital technologies in the economy and society DESI Bulgaria ranks 26th among the EU member states.
