π Tender Overview
This year, the Vienna Local Railways are renewing sections of their Badner Railway line in several stages. The first step is to modernize the route in the Vosendorf Siebenhirten to Wiener Neudorf area from March 28th to April 6th or in a second construction phase from April 27th to May 3rd, 2026. No rail operations are possible in this route area during both periods.
Here, the Vienna Local Railways are renewing a total of around 500 meters of tracks, switches, overhead lines and other technical infrastructure (signals, cables, etc.).
In both phases, passengers will be subject to the same operational restrictions or replacement measures. The Badner Bahn runs during Easter week and at the end of April/beginning of May from Vienna Opera to Vosendorf Siebenhirten and from Baden Josefsplatz to Wiener Neudorf. A replacement bus service will be set up in the closed section, which will also provide a connection to Shopping City Sud and the U6 terminus Siebenhirten. The route leads from the U6 terminus Siebenhirten via Ketzergasse and further along the B17/Triester Strasse to Wiener Neudorf. The replacement bus will also operate during night traffic on weekends and before public holidays. In addition, in the Shopping City South area, a barrier-free shuttle will take people with disabilities or limited mobility from the replacement bus to the shopping center (entrance 5) and back (weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.). The shuttle leaves from the replacement bus stop on B17/Triester Strasse. From April 7th or after the second partial closure from May 4th, the Badner Bahn will again run continuously along the entire route.
The gradual renewal of our route is necessary so that we can continue to offer our passengers safe, punctual and reliable travel with the Badner Bahn in the future, says Simone Schaller-Galler, Managing Director of Wiener Lokalbahnen, the operating company of the Badner Bahn and part of the Wiener Stadtwerke Group.
The Badner Bahn covers almost 2.5 million kilometers per year between Vienna and Baden. This corresponds to over 60 orbits of the earth. The daily load on the technical infrastructure is correspondingly high. A train with double traction weighs over 80 tons without passengers. The trains weigh almost 13,000 tons on the tracks every day. Work to renew the route is also planned during the summer and autumn holidays.
