Dealing with new technologies such as robotics VR technology or 3D printing has long been at the top of the curricula of OBB apprentice training. The companys own training workshop in Graz has now gone one step further. There apprentices asked themselves the question Why only work with 3D printers when you can build them yourselfFrom plan to constructionNo sooner said than done. Together with their trainers the 5-member team of apprentices in the field of electronics information and telecommunications technology got to work. The plans for the 3D printer were developed by apprentice trainers at the training workshop in Vienna and are based on the so-called Fused Deposition Modeling FDM process. The assembly was done by the young people in Graz. After eleven weeks the first self-built 3D printer was ready. The railway of tomorrow needs state-of-the-art technologies and professionals who can handle them. And thats exactly what we do with training. We are proud of our junior staff and the team of apprentice trainers who implemented the 3D printer project together says Ursula Bazant Head of Training and Further Education at BB-Infrastruktur AG.Manufacture of devices and aidsWhat began as an experiment then went straight into series production the training workshop now has five such printers. The parts for the other devices have already been manufactured with the companys own 3D printers in the training workshop. The devices are now used for training purposes in the classroom and are used to make devices and aids for trains. Together with the 3D printing team of BB Train Tech for example the device for adjusting the windscreen wiper system of the City Jet and measuring adapter were developed and manufactured by the training workshop. By the way the construction of further 3D printers is already being planned. If you are still looking for an apprenticeship and are interested in 3D printing and CO. BB is the right place for you.
