π Tender Overview
The effects of the global climate crisis are becoming increasingly noticeable. This year was the warmest of measuring history. The Vienna city government has set itself a very ambitious goal with the climate neutrality by 2040. This requires a comprehensive renovation of the Vienna Energy System. The need for renewable electricity will increase significantly. It is therefore of crucial importance to expand the use of photovoltaics in the city, since other energy sources such as water or wind are only available to a limited extent. The city government has set concrete goals for the expansion of electricity generation by photovoltaics and the Viennese solar power offensive was launched: by 2025, the output should be increased to 250 MWP and 800 MWP by 2030. This means that around a quarter of Viennese households (approx. 230,000) can be supplied with solar power.
The city of Vienna takes on a pioneering role in this regard. As part of an urban implementation program, all citys own areas were checked for their suitability for photovoltaics. By the end of 2025, photovoltaic systems are to be installed wherever it is technically feasible and economically sensible. A total of 46 compulsory school locations have already been equipped with photovoltaic systems and 10 more will be added this year. In addition to this, Education City Councilor Christoph Return: The ambition, until 2025 wherever it is technically possible to build photovoltaic systems at Viennese educational buildings, our serious approach in the endeavor under strings to actually be climate-neutral by 2040.
Climate Councilor Jurgen Czernohorzky adds: With the equipment of our educational buildings with photovoltaic systems, the Viennese solar power offensive reaches another milestone. It turns out that the city is also a pioneer in educational institutions in terms of sustainability. The energy that is generated on the roofs of our schools flows directly into your own power supply and makes an important contribution to achieving our climate goals. We show that education and ecological responsibility go hand in hand.
Climate cavity buildings are the new standard for educational buildings in Vienna. With the Vienna Sonnenstrom offensive, schools become renewable power plants. In this way, the energy transition can be experienced in your own environment and can be clearly integrated into the lessons. An important and positive contribution to education and climate protection, says Stefan Gara, energy and climate spokesman Neos Vienna. Smart solutions in education
The energy concept for an educational building is intended to enable a highly efficient, alternative and year-round optimized supply of renewable on-site resources. The life cycle costs should be kept as low as possible. The energy system should be economical and ecological in the long term.
In order to operate the educational location as energy -efficiently as possible, the following measures are taken into account:
All educational buildings are equipped with a photovoltaic systems for the extraction of solar power in accordance with the requirements of the Vienna Building Regulations. The use of the photovoltaic system on the building is maximized to cover the energy requirement of the building. In addition, the photovoltaic system is integrated into the energy monitoring of the educational building. In order to ensure that the users of the building find a pleasant environment all year round, care is taken to ensure that summer overheating, which is often created by high personal assignments, is prevented by suitable environmentally friendly measures.
The following measures are concrete:
For consciousness formation, the innovative energy concept is integrated and made visible in the architecture (by e.g. Shot boards) and thus woven into the everyday life of users. In addition, Vice Mayor and City Councilor Christoph Return: Vienna has the ambitious goal of being climate -neutral by 2040. The Viennese educational buildings also make a significant contribution to achieving this goal. While newly built school locations and campus buildings work largely energy self-sufficient, i.e. do not require external energy, environmentally friendly structural measures, such as the establishment of a PV system, are also possible on many existing school buildings. Every single measure that we set in this context is a mosaic stone for the goal of the city to be climate -neutral by 2040!
Environmental and climate city council Jurgen Czernohorszky adds: The future of our city is also written on the roofs of our educational institutions. With the Viennese solar power offensive, we use these unused areas to create clean energy and at the same time convey awareness of renewable energies to our children and young people. Photovoltaics is the engine of our energy transition and every new PV system in our schools is one step towards our goal of the climate-neutral Vienna 2040.
