o Minister Luis Bravo met with Ambassador James Yeomans, who reaffirms his countrys commitment to strengthening cooperation in the mining sectorIn a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Mines, Luis Bravo De La Cruz, the new Australian ambassador, James Yeomans, reaffirmed his countrys commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation in the mining sector, highlighting it as the fundamental pillar of the bilateral relationship.
You are the prime minister who has officially received me, and that is very important, especially given the importance of the relationship we have in the mining sector, which is a fundamental axis in the relationship between Australia and Peru, said the diplomat.
He noted that Australia seeks to strengthen ties with Peru by integrating its Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) companies through closer strategic cooperation, promoting the exploration of critical minerals and consolidating the presence of more Australian companies operating in the Peruvian mining sector.
As an example of the presence of investments, he mentioned three important projects in our country. He said that the Orica company is about to invest around US$1,000 million in a petrochemical plant, in Ilo or Marcona, for the production of explosives, ammonia, urea and ammonium nitrate, using natural gas from Camisea.
This project will allow Peru to produce all the necessary inputs for the mining sector and the agricultural sector, he remarked.
He also mentioned AusQuest, a junior exploration company, which discovered a gold and silver porphyry in its Cangallo project (Arequipa); and the Bradken company, is building a state-of-the-art steel foundry plant in Chilca, with an investment of more than US$100 million and its inauguration is estimated in July of this year.
They are three relevant examples and a good example of how Australia wants to continue working with you, added Ambassador James Yeomans, who recently, when presenting his credentials to the President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, requested more Australian investment in Peru.
Before ending the meeting, the head of MINEM described these announcements by Ambassador James Yeoams as very good news for Peru, since these investments will not only contribute to the countrys economy, but will generate more jobs and improve the quality of life of more Peruvians and their families.
