Australia Better Radar Tender

As part of Stage 2 of the flood recovery program for North Queensland the Australian Government has announced new measures to assist schools and families and to enable better radar coverage and flood advice. This follows immediate disasters assistance and a 300 million grant program for primary producers announced under Stage 1.Non-government schools in Townsville supporting regional students and boarders impacted by the floods will receive new funding to ensure they continue to provide high-quality education. The funds will support the needs of individual schools assisting students teachers and communities to meet the costs of education.Isolated families receiving Assistance for Isolated Children and ABSTUDY recipients will also be eligible for additional payments.The new measures will also help mitigate the impact of future flooding events through the installation of two new weather radars in the Maxwelton and Charters Towers-Hughenden regions. The equipment will fill the radar coverage gap between Mount Isa and Townsville.New rain gauges will also be installed in the upper Burdekin region enabling the Bureau of Meteorology to provide more accurate and effective flood advice. This will assist farmers to move livestock or mobile infrastructure in advance where possible helping to mitigate the impacts of future flooding events.
