On August 20 2025 the full line of the Budapest Childrens Railway celebrates its 75th birthday including the Huvosvolgy end station. Families and small railroaders are welcomed at the vehicle and below the station. The trains run according to a compressed timetable.
The first phase of the childrens railway began on April 11 1948 on Szechenyi Mountain but train traffic began on the full railway line only 75 years ago August 20 1950.
Wednesdays holiday event will be open from 10 am to 5 pm at the Childrens Railway at Huvosvolgyi Vehicle Heels and in the reception park below the station. Children visiting the open day can try the uniform and make the ticket testing in the salon car with real railway equipment. There will also be vehicle shows at the towing plant for small railroad locomotives and cars: a steam locomotive can be viewed inside and out small railway lovers can take off a traditional MK45-type diesel locomotive the C50 small locomotive the MK48 locomotive too. Members of the childrens railway fleet other special vehicles freight wagons and the MK49 locomotive are also lined up on the storage tracks. One of the burgundy salon car opens a casual railway history exhibition for one day and the small salon car can try a train simulator. The M4 locomotive which has undergone a period of renovation is being introduced which is one of the first diesel locomotives made in our country and after decades of waiting for the first time small railroaders will see it in full splendor.
In addition to the trains Ikarus nostalgia buses await visitors in the host park below the Huvosvolgy Station but the smaller ones can also jump. Trains will also travel on a sustainable terrain table of the MAV Group in the underpass leading to the platform. At the Huvosvolgy station at the renovated museum of the childrens railway the history of the small railway can be recalled at a permanent exhibition and in the former escalators engine room film screenings are remembered on the former pioneer railway.
The trains of the childrens railroad between Huvosvolgy and Szechenyihegy are scheduled for the usual high season: traditional passenger trains depart from the two terminals every 40-50 minutes. The locomotives at the renowned anniversary are not only lined up not only at the traction site but also on deposits between Huvosvolgy and Szepjuhaszne thus traveling with a steam move the Lillafured motor car and the C50. In the forest section there may also be excellent photo themes of curiosity less frequently visible small railroad vehicles.
In addition to the Family Programs in Huvosvolgy it is worth walking under the shady trees of the summer forest even on several sections - for this MAV application can be purchased daily tickets. At Huvosvolgy Szepjuhaszne and Szechenyihegy Station you can buy a ticket for the small railway with an OTP SZEP card.
