As established in the work schedule, between 12 at night and 5 in the morning today, Tuesday, February 3, the assembly process of the first of the four provisional pedestrian bridges of the Southern Expressway was carried out.
There were 3 modules of metal structures that were raised and placed on the towers already located on Esteban Camere Street in Surco, for better passability and safe access for neighbors.
The work, carried out by the Municipal Company to Support Strategic Projects (Emape) - a body attached to the Municipality of Lima - began with the application of all safety standards for lifting cargo in order to be able to maneuver without risks.
Using a high-tonnage crane, the structures called walkways were lifted and moved to the towers that will support the bridge. For five hours, the central walkway and two side walkways were raised and then placed on the towers, thus creating the bridge.
The Infrastructure Manager of Emape, Lech Espinoza, reported that after the assembly of the first bridge, signaling, a zebra crossing will be carried out and paths will be built for pedestrian traffic.
Likewise, he reported that in parallel, excavations are being carried out on the provisional bridge located on Dona Elsa Street to then assemble the platforms; The installation process will be replicated on the other two bridges on Garcia Garcia Street and Los Vicus Street, respectively.
It is estimated that the installation of the four temporary pedestrian bridges, each 60 meters long, will be completed in approximately six weeks.
After that, the construction of the final pedestrian bridges will proceed, which will be made of reinforced concrete, reinforced with metal structures in the steel beams and pillars.
The Via Expresa Sur mainly benefits residents of San Juan de Miraflores, Surco, Barranco, Villa El Salvador and others who previously did not have an additional mobility axis to Huaylas Avenue and Panamericana Sur. Therefore, this new route has decongested these intersections and travel times have been reduced from one hour to 20 or 30 minutes.
