π Tender Overview
More than 75 interdictions in 2026 reinforce the protection of the Tambopata National Reserve against the advance of illegal mining. So far in 2026, the Peruvian State has deployed an unprecedented tactical and strategic intervention to stop illegal mining that affects the Tambopata National Reserve and its buffer zone. As a result, more than 16 thousand gallons of diesel, 370 mining camps, 211 strake-type rafts, 202 engines, 130 suction pumps, 150 strakes, 71 tricargueros, 170 motorcycles, 33 electric generators, 40 peque peque engines, 30 boats, 10 outboard motors, 95 hoppers, 40 chainsaws have been destroyed. and more than 24 motor pumps, as well as other equipment used for these illicit activities.
For this reason, within the framework of the National Strategy for the Reduction and Interdiction of Illegal Mining in Peru by 2030, approved by DS No. 003-2025-IN, the National Police of Peru (PNP), the Army of Peru, the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guard (Dicapi) and the Special Prosecutors Office for Environmental Matters (FEMA), with the support of the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp) and the firm commitment of the High Commissioner for the Fight Against Illegal Mining, have carried out 75 interdictions that, as part of an articulated land and river strategy, have managed to significantly impact the operational capacity of these illegal activities.
As part of these articulated actions, Sernanp, an agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment, provides permanent logistical support at the surveillance and control posts (PVC): Otorongo, with 25 PNP troops and 6 park rangers; Blue, with 15 Dicapi troops and 4 park rangers; Malinoswki and Yarinal; continuously developing surveillance and control tasks in these four strategic points, in addition, we have more than 70 park rangers and personnel dedicated to monitoring and surveillance tasks in 10 surveillance and control posts, which provide updated information in real time on the progress of this illicit activity in this protected natural area.
Thanks to this inter-institutional coordination, a dynamic control phase has been launched that incorporates satellite monitoring and drone overflights to protect the most vulnerable sectors of this protected natural area. In addition, operations have been carried out in key areas such as Correntada, Isla Cordova, Playa Vilma, Malinowski River, Philadelphia, Valle Dorado, La Cumbre and Aguas Negras, allowing the systematic elimination of illegal equipment, camps and supplies, reinforcing territorial control and reducing pressure on critical ecosystems.
Illegal mining not only destroys forests and rivers: it also threatens the economy of thousands of families that depend on sustainable tourism, chestnuts and biobusinesses. Recovering these territories means protecting the natural capital that generates employment and well-being for Madre de Dios. Therefore, within the framework of the National Strategy for the Reduction and Interdiction of Illegal Mining in Peru by 2030, interventions are being reevaluated in order to strengthen the development of long-term actions and increase the number of operations and law enforcement personnel, thus guaranteeing more comprehensive control and permanently stopping the advance of illegal mining in Madre de Dios.
With these actions, the Peruvian State continues its frontal fight against environmental crimes, and reaffirms its commitment to the conservation of our biodiversity, natural resources and the future of the country. These interventions have been carried out continuously with the aim of alleviating the pressure generated by illegal mining in these sectors.
