At almost 6 thousand meters, future special operators complete one of the most demanding phases of the LXVII COMANDO Special Operators Program AF-2026Where air is scarce, temperatures drop below zero and each step requires extraordinary effort, the future special operators of the Peruvian Army prepare to carry out combat, rescue and survival missions in the most extreme scenarios in the country.
In the snowy Vallunaraju, in the Ancash region, the 41 members of the LXVII Special Operators Program COMANDO AF-2026 successfully completed one of the most demanding stages of their training, carried out at 5,900 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca.
The specialized instruction took place in a high mountain environment characterized by glacial terrain, strong winds, low temperatures and conditions that test the physical endurance, mental toughness and operational capacity of each participant.
During this phase, the students carried out cliff assaults, tactical infiltrations, movements on ice, as well as self-rescue maneuvers and personnel recovery in crevices. These capabilities are essential to operate effectively in difficult-to-access areas and respond to emergency situations or highly complex missions.
Previously, the future commandos carried out long-range marches and survival exercises to the Vallunaraju base camp, located at 4,900 meters of altitude, strengthening their tactical movement capabilities and adaptation to one of the most challenging environments in the national territory.
Preparation began at the end of May in Monterrey, Huaraz, more than 3,300 meters above sea level. At this stage, the students developed rappelling techniques, terrain recognition and adaptation to extreme weather conditions, laying the foundations to face increasingly complex challenges.
Under the motto To be and not to appear, the members of the program continue to forge the leadership, discipline and operational capabilities that distinguish the elite forces of the Peruvian Army, prepared to act where others cannot reach.
During approximately nine months of training, future special operators receive specialized instruction to perform in various operational scenarios. The Ministry of Defense thus reaffirms its commitment to the preparation of highly trained personnel to contribute to national defense and the fulfillment of the strategic missions of the Peruvian Army.
